Mission |
Vision |
Our mission is to contribute to student achievement and lifelong learning by providing a representative collection of books and various resources that can be used to support the curriculum in partnership or in collaboration with classroom teachers. As well as insuring that the media center (Shark Central) is accessible to teachers of all subject areas and is available to all students as an extension of the classroom to further their educational experience and learning while at Atlantic High School.
|
Shark Central (Media Center @ AHS) is the school's largest classroom. A place where teachers can use the various spaces to deliver instruction in creative and innovative ways. It is also a safe space, where each and every student can continue to engage and contribute to their own learning. And an environment that cultivates a community of diversity and inclusion in ensuring that we all learn, grow, and succeed... together.

The American Library Association typically highlights a list of books--usually the top 10 from the previous year that might have been challenged, questioned, and/or received attention for content or matter of objection. Explanation and background is also provided. Guided discussions could be had about these and past 100 books making this list. This observation simply celebrates our constitutional right as individuals to read and listen to the ideas of others.

Atlantic High has been recognized as a 2016 Florida Power Library School. This designation is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education’s Library Services and the Florida of Supervisors of Media (FASM). Recognized schools are determined to have outstanding libraries that are fully integrated into their school-wide programming.
Candidates applying to this program solicit input from their stakeholders and agree to document evidence in the form of a portfolio and short video featuring six key areas: Instruction, resource management, curriculum/assessment support, program administration, environment, and advocacy. The program is evaluated using the ExC3EL rubric and a final interview is conducted. Florida Power Library Schools achieving this status will be formally recognized in late October at the Florida Association for Media in Education Conference. Recipients will retain this status for a period of five years.
